Hello, I just upgraded Avira today and now while I'm logging in at start up I hear a beep that sounds like Avira has found a virus. However nothing is quarantined and there's nothing in the log.I scanned my system drive and it came up clean. Is anyone else using the never version of Avira AntiVir Personal? Has anyone else noticed a strange beep at start up?.

    Thanks,

    Chris

I use the free version of Avira at home but I've not noticed anything like this yet. Please can you give more precise details on the version number you are using?

Thanks for the reply, It's version 10.0.0.561. Version 9 didn't make a sound at start up.

I'm back home again and Avira has just automatically updated. However, the free / personal version I have is only a v9 product, see attached screen dump. I did force a manual update check but that said I was up to date so I can't help any further at this time.

I'll keep an eye on this for when v10 reaches the cheapskates like me who don't want to pay!

Hi again, I didn't pay for it - I'm using the free version. I got it from this page. Since this is a new version I think it is necessary to uninstall the old version first. I don't think you'll get it via automatic updates.

    Best,

    Chris

Hmm, there are two update options in the Avira Help menu, one to check for db updates the other for product update. I'd expect the latter to find v10 if it is available. Maybe Avira are rolling it out as an auto update over a period of time to prevent server overload (v10 is very new, it's dated 22 March ). It has been reported here in times past that this sort of thing happens with AVG free.

I think I'll wait a bit longer before I go for the uninstall/reinstall option.

Hi again, just saw a notification for the upgrade on my wife's machine. Seems I was too impetuous and should have waited. I ran Avira specifically on each of the items in my start-up folder but it found them clean as it should. But the beeping at start-up is still continuing. I wonder if it is because I have checked the option to have the security kick in early. I hope not. That beep is irritating!

Maybe the update will reach me today, I'll let you know how I get on - though it being Friday now that may be not until after the weekend.

Meanwhile Chris, please check your private messages, I sent you one the other day but you don't seem to have seen it yet.

NO Its totally silent and also there is no splash screen @ start-up. Is it set-up correctly or just left @ default settings?

Hi, not sure what you mean by set up correctly - wouldn't that depend upon an individual user's preferences? If you mean did I set up exclusion folders forautohotkey scripts, then yes I did. Avira is very keen to give false positives for those.I don't get any nags from Avira as I followed the advice here. Also I heard there is a free utility to do that as well. Not tried it as the changes that I had made still held even after a complete uninstall and reinstall.
