Outlook 2003 has stopped automatically capitalizing the first letter of a sentence. In Outlook I am using Word as my email editor. The box is checked under Tools>Options>Spelling>Auto Correct to Capitalize the first letter of sentences. The letter "I" is automatically capitalized whenever it is typed by itself. Using Word 2003 alone, automatic capitalization works normally.

There are occasional reports of this kind of problem, or the reverse of it in various forums. The most common variant seems to include cases where your default message type is HTML, rather than Rich Text or plain text. What is your default setting?

Try changing your message format to rich text or plain text and see if the behavior changes.

I tried rich text and plain text and HTML None are capitalizing the first letter of a sentence.

This happened to me when I loaded Word 2010 Beta. Removing the Beta and Repairing Office 2007 brought back the capitalization.

I am using Outlook 2003 SP3. How do I repair Outlook 2003? I seem to remember seeing that option somewhere. Nothing else seem to resolve this problem. (It is my wife's compute and she is really pressuring me to fix this.)

Detect & Repair is found under the Help menu item in Outlook 2003.

I ran Outlook Help>Detect & Repair and still Outlook fails to capitalize the first word in sentence. This is a real head scratchier. Have I really stumped all the Loungers? If so, it will be the first time in many years that I have been a member.
