    Howdy folks,

I'm helping a client automate a couple of templates. Some of the information to be entered (company name, site, etc.) is repetitive so I'd planned to use ASK fields to let them type it once and populate it throughout the document. However, I also planned to use form fields since nearly the entire template is boilerplate text. I've tried it a few times and it seems that the cross-references to the ASK field bookmark don't update if they're in the protected sections of the document.

    1. Am I on the wrong track? i.e. is there a better way to do this?
    2. If not, is there a way around this problem? Maybe protect the section after the the cross-refs have updated?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

    Hi Beej,

AFAIK, the behaviour you're observing is normal. Have you considered using the document's DOCPROPERTY fields instead, and referencing those?

Since you are using form fields elsewhere, you might as well use these to do the same thing. If you use cross-references to a legacy form field for all the repeated data then you just need to tick the 'Calculate on Exit' option on that form field.
