I have let Microsoft Update my XP with KB976002. This is the mandatory (for EU users) fix to allow other browsers a chance,
When restarted it displays a screen with all the browsers and underneath each two buttons INSTALL and TELL ME MORE.
I use IE8 as my default browser on this XP machine but it seems to do nothing clicking any of the buttons. The irritatiing thing is that every time XP is started this choice screen appears.

How do I get it to stop?

There is no way to uninstall KB976002.

Have you tried uninstalling them by going to the "C:\Windows" directory, carefully search through all the MS updates
    for the right one.
You will need to "show hidden files and folders" first.

Invest a little time and energy in a well thought out BACKUP regimen and you will have minimal down time, and headache.

System Restore can be your friend in cases like these--just go back to a time before the patch was installed and avoid installing it again.
