When I go through control panel/backup your computer and then click on set up backup, nothing happens. An unassociated file icon briefly appears on the task bar. Then it goes away. I'm using Win 7 ultimate 64 bit, 3.0 dual core CPU, 7 MB ram. Anyone have any ideas? I'm experiencing no other issues.

My idea is to go with a 3rd party backup app. The back up in Win 7 is somewhat basic and problematic.

Is this the first time you have attempted to use the Windows 7 Backup & Restore?

Check your services section to ensure that the "Windows Backup" service is started:
Start, run; Type "Services.msc" without the quotes.
The Windows 7 Backup is also dependant on the "Remote Procedure Call" service.

Check your event viewer to see if there are any related errors:
Start, Run, and type "eventvwr" without the quotes.

You may also use the System File Checker to Repair Windows 7 System Files if needed:
Start, Run; Typre "sfc /scannow" without the quotes.
A small black dos-like box will open and show a percent completion, it should take a few min to run.
    DRIVE IMAGING
Invest a little time and energy in a well thought out BACKUP regimen and you will have minimal down time, and headache.

Build your own system; get everything you want and nothing you don't.
    Latest Build:
    ASUS X99 Deluxe, Core i7-5960X, Corsair Hydro H100i, Plextor M6e 256GB M.2 SSD, Corsair DOMINATOR Platinum 32GB DDR4@2666, W8.1 64 bit,
EVGA GTX980, Seasonic PLATINUM-1000W PSU, MountainMods U2-UFO Case, and 7 other internal drives.
