When an Outlook email attachment such as a .wav file has been opened and played in Media Player and then closed, upon closing the email message, Outlook issues a message that the message has been changed and should the changes be saved. Why does it do that, because nothing in fact has been changed in the email message?

I think there is some sort of indicator in Outlook that indicates whether the attachment has been opened. That apparently triggers the message about the email being changed. I see the same behavior in 2007 that you describe - is that the version you are on?
