    This is the code that is in my manualled inserted table of contents field code:
    TC "\“David Garrick & His Wife,\” by William Hogarth (1697-1764)" \f C \l "1"

    In the table fo contents, it appears like this:
    David Garrick & His Wife,” by William Hogarth (1697-1764)

    Why is it missing the opening quotationg mark in the TOC?

    Try it with a space after the first quotation mark as shown below
    TC " \“David Garrick & His Wife,\” by William Hogarth (1697-1764)" \f C \l "1"
