I downloaded IE8 and during installation I get an error: need to download WindowsXP-KB932823-v3-x86-ENU.
So i did, but when I tried to install it I got this error:
Setup has detected that the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying.
There is non need to install this update and that's the end

I have Windows XP Pro- SP3 and IE6. Everyone recommends to go to IE8 for safety and I know I could uninstall SP3 and go to SP2 to fix it. That's insane waist of time just to be safe.

I use Firefox most of the time

Does anyone have a better solution to finish IE8 installation?

If you used Windows Update to try install IE8 download the full installer from Download details: Windows Internet Explorer 8 for Windows XP and save to your desktop.

Then uninstall all third party toolbars. Close other open applications. Disable you antivirus software. Run the installer. Re-enable your antivirus software. Get the most current version of any third party toolbar you use before reinstalling. Think twice about adding third party toolbars.

    Run Windows update.

Thanks for the info, but I do not use any toolbars and I used the full install (16.1MB), so I at a loss.

Have you tried disabling your anti-virus software before starting the IE8 install?

Have you tried the IE8 installation in safe mode?

Yes I disabled McAfee Antivirus, but did not try Safe mode. How would that help with a missing patch (WindowsXP-KB932823-v3-x86-ENU)?

In safe mode a limited set of drivers and other software get loaded. Sometimes, with patches the less running the better.
