Before I never installed there software and I had no problem connecting. When Comcast came out to install cable at my new place they said I had to have their software installed. One of them even called their tech support to ask. I realize that in many cases this is akin to the blind leading the sightless. Does anyone know if I need to have this software on my computer?

No, you do NOT. Most of the time it is a "Branded" version of IE and then some tools for the "Techs" to use to trouble shoot your system, so they do not have "Walk" you through the steps.

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Thanks Dave! I was fairly sure about that.
