OK, I'm fed up with drilling down several levels to a folder only to have explorer scroll back up to the top, usually Documents.
Anybody know a work around ??

One way is to temporarily add the folder to the Favourites pane.

Put a shortcut to your Users folder on the desktop. Here is mine: C:\Users\Ted. When this is open right click on your user name (Ted in my case) and select Create a Shortcut. Since a shortcut cannot be made here the s/w will ask if you want the shortcut placed on your desktop. Click on this shortcut and your folder opens to access most of the info you will need.
    BACKUP...BACKUP...BACKUP

I've seen this, and IMO Win Explorer is simply broken.

If MS disagrees, they're inadvertently stimulating a market for replacement file managers.
