    Hi,

I can use MS-Word to prepare a document and print it but would like to read up on the basics of word processing...like what are tab stops actually..what are indents..why are they needed at all...

I would like to be pointed to a tutorial/document/book where I can learn these things in a step-by-step way.

I have not been able to find any such resource on the web till now.

    Please help

    TIA,

    Tony

Try Word Processing Basics and see if it answers some of your questions. Tab stops are a method for positioning the next character at a specified distance from the left margin, and originated with the old manual typewriters which had a mechanism where you could press a key and go to that physical point. Indents are a more recent invention and come from the publishing world where paragraphs in documents were created that had Hanging indents or first line indents, on needed to be indented on one or both sides to set them off from the surrounding text. Hope this helps.
