i have win xp. i can listen to my music with headphones. i have the sounds up highest. the problem is: if i take out the headphone jack- no music is heard. i tried Nero, VLC and Windows Media Player. all gave the same results- that is - no sounds.

i went to the volume icon on taskbar- checked the master volume and all the settings indicate the music is on.

i right clicked on the volume icon and went to "Sounds and Audio Properties" -> Volume tab-> went to Speaker settings ;> went to speaker volume ;> "Advanced" Tab and check the "Speaker Setup" i switched back and forth from headphones stero to laptop stero and still no sound comes out of the laptop speakers. i did the same for mono as well.

sound only comes when the headphones are on.

    any advice is appreciated.

    thanks

That's usually due to a damaged jack. The signal routing (internal speakers vs external wires) is mechanically switched inside the jack when a plug is inserted or removed. On some systems the jack is directly mounted to the motherboard and can be expensive or nearly impossible to successfully replace.

Would you consider plugging in a small desktop speaker into the headphone jack? It's klutzy, but it works.

    Open Office
