    As the owner of an Access 2003 dbase concerned with people and their classification into one or more catgories, the subform that provides a list of categories always shows an empty slot in which an additional category can be selected. However my users do not see this empty slot and therefore cannot add extra catgories. I'm not an experienced developer so I assume that the problem relates to user permissions. At present users can only read/write. The attached image may makes things clearer.

    When you allocate permissions, these are the options for tables:

    [attachment=88686:tablepersmissions.gif]

    The extra line in the subform (for new records) will only be present if users have permission to Insert Data.

    This assumes you have set permissions using Access security..it sounds like you have.

    Thanks for the lead, John. I had to select the 2 tables involved in the form/subform and set the permissions as shown in your screenshot before users were able to see the extra line.
