    Email problems

I'm having strange behavior under WinXp and Outlook 2002. It may be the OS, or Office XP. The first time I call up Outlook and check for new mail, everything works fine. All subsequent attempts produce the error "Outlook is unable to connect to your POP3 server." My cable modem connection is intact, as I can browse the web, and post this message.

Check for the settings in your account. It should be "mail", and anything else will give you an error.

    Hi
Have you got the in-built XP firewall enabled? I had a similar problem, which went away when I disabled said firewall and stuck with Zone Alarm.

I have the builtin firewall disabled, and am using ZoneAlarm. The weird thing is that everything works once, then fails unless I quit and restart.

Not sure what you mean, Dave. My email account settings work intermittently as previously explained, so I don't know what I would change. When it works, the "test settings" button shows everything is fine. The next time, it cannot connect with my POP3. It's like the sun suddenly deciding to rise in the west and set in the east.

    Re: Email problems

I discovered that the problem lies with my Panda antivirus running in permanent protection mode (e.g. watching all emails). Disabling allowed me to send a test message. Now I will reactivate and check my system. If no viruses/worms found, I'll check with Panda for support.

    Thanks for your help.

Glad you found the problem. These AV's are starting to be the root of a lot of problems.

    Re: Email problems

Another angle to look at. This could be a zone alarm problem, why you ask? Well if zone alarm does not load right on the start up you can not use your internet service. No matter what you have be it cable DSL or modem Zone Alarm will disable able them if you do not see it down in the lower corner by your clock. When you shut down and reboot your zone alarm loads right the second time and your able to use your internet service. I had problems with this too until I figured out zone alarm was the culprit!
