    Installing Off 97 onto Word 2000 (O97SR2, Word 2000 SR1)

I have a new computer that came with MS Works and Word 2000 SR1. I want to install Office Prof 97 SR2 onto the new computer (except for Word 97) but am concerned about possible conflicts. The new computer has an Office folder with Word in it; I assume installing Off 97 will try to put it into the same folder. Will that be a problem? I will also have to go back and update 97SR2 for the y2k updates. Will that mess up Word 2000?

Does anyone have any recommendations for the best way to a successful installation?

    Thanks

I do not think that Word 2000 and Word 97 co-exist very well, but if you require both versions it would probably be best to install Office 97 and any SR updates you want and then re-install Works with Word 2000.

If you have no real need for Word97, then use a custom install for Office97, and exclude installation of Word.. It might still be necessary to re-install Word 2000 but unlikely.

I would uninstall MS Works and Word 2000 first. After a reboot install Office 97 minus Word. If everything works OK, then install Word 2000.

    Good Luck!

Thanks to all of you who responded. I did uninstall Word 2000 SR1 (but left the rest of Works), installed Office 97 SR2 into the default Office folder, applied the y2k updates, installed Word 2000 SR1 into the same default Office folder, then used office update to install the necessary security updates.

So far, all seems to be working.

    Thanks again for your help.
