I just set the file association for a particular extension but forgot to set the Type description appropriately. I am using Windows 7. With earlier Windows versions I was able to edit this but I can't find out how to do it with Windows 7. I found many ways to change the association but none let me add the description. I would not mind clearing the association and starting over but I don't know how to do that either.

A Google search for "Win 7 file associations" returned a wealth of info. One in particular mentions File Association Fixer. This or one of the other sites may be of assistance.

I tried a bunch of other searches but not yours.
About three pagesto your search in I found a forum post with a link to:
    Default Programs Editor
With this program I was able to remove the file extension and then redo the normal file association process.
It has a method for changing descriptions but it looked like it might change the description for multiple extensions at once.
I don't really like using random programs from the web to fix things but Window 7 does not appear to have a built in tools that let you change descriptions

Note: File Association Fixer only appears to work on "well known" extensions.

Glad I was a little helpful to help solve your problem. It quite often requires a little refinement on the search parameters to get to what you need. I guess my parameters hit the right cord.
