Whenever I "re-awaken" my Dell Optiplex 360 from standby or hibernation mode, I find that my screen resolution has been changed and all my desktop icons have been jumbled. (My monitor is a HP w2408h. I'm using Windows XP Pro.)

Turning the computer off and then back on does not have the same effect: My resolution remains the same, and my icons are where I left them.

Anyone have any ideas on why this might be happening ... and a possible solution?

Hi Peter and welcome to the Lounge!

Have you tried updating your video card drivers, or your video subsystem drivers if you have integrated graphics on your motherboard? I have seen various issues related to video drivers and wakeup from standby and hibernation modes.

Also, check the Event Viewer Windows Logs for Application and System to see if any critical errors are logged that coincide with the issue you are reporting.
