My 64-bit Acer laptop running WIN 7 Home premium won't open Windows Live Mail when I have speech recognition start when windows starts. When I was troubleshooting, I tried a safeboot, WLM worked fine. Then by process of elimination I determined that Windows speech recognition was the conflict. When it is running, WLM window opens but I don't get signed in, not messages show and eventually it goes to "not responding" and is very difficult to close. I found one solution suggestion for a similar situation in Vista that involved changing a setting in the sound devices, (unchecking "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device") but it didn't solve my issue.
Thank you to anyone who has an answer. I would simply turn off the speech recognition, but I was just getting use to using it.

Have you tried changing any of the speech recognition options?

The only option I changed was to uncheck the option to start speech recognition when windows starts. What option did you have in mind?

I saw on the Windows 7 web site, something about controlling email as though it was an option.

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling WLM.

One possible solution is to right click the speech recognition widget, go to options and click allow dication everywhere. Another possible work around is to dictate into notepad, then copy to the message to send. Another possible solution I found was WLM does run properly if Speech Recognition is started after Mail. Since I do not use speech reconition I can not try any of these possibilities.

How to change Win 7 speech reconition settings.

I did try starting Speech Recognition after opening WLM, but WLM froze again. My issue is not to use speech recognition to compose email, but simply to figure out why WLM freezes when I have them both open at the same time. However, you would think that Microsoft would be interested in the issue.

You would think. Have you sent a problem report to MS? This might be a good thing to do.
