    Shared folder permissions

XP-RC1. Once again MS has hidden away an important security switch for don-domain users, the security tab to set up folder permissions. The default allows all network users full access to all shared folders, according to the user group they are assigned.

Permissions are available for NTFS only. To turn on permission controls, like the default in W2k, go to control panel, folder options, view, advanced settings, and the very bottom switch, turn OFF the 'simple' (recommended) switch.

The security tab then becomes visible when setting up sharing for a folder. Sheesshh - as Woody would say!

    Re: Shared folder permissions

Remember, MS is trying to sell the product to the home user, so "'simple' (recommended) " needs to be turn OFF by those of us that want to control our systems.
This is one of the first items I had problems with, it took several builds, before I could remember to turn this off. <img src=/S/evilgrin.gif border=0 alt=evilgrin width=15 height=15>

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.
