Masters and Custom Animation (PowerPoint 2000)

    Hi!
As an instructor I have always encouraged persons to use the slide Master to consistently format their presentations, including Custom Animations. I tell then to go to the Master Slide, Slide Show, Custom Animation and apply the animation that they would like to see for most slides. THEN they can go to the individual slides to make them different. I have just found out that when you go to the individual slides and apply custom animation - its almost like it puts a permanent format on the slide and I can't seem to get it to then conform later to the Master Slide. I have tried going to the slide and select Format, Slide Layout, Reapply Master Slide - but it does not get it to conform to the Master Slide. I have also tried changing the template.. but this also did not work. I have also tried changing the individual slide to the same custom animation as the Master - but then when I subsequently change the Master - it does not affect the individual slide. Short of copying all the text to a blank presentation and starting over - does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Hello

I've found that there is no way to "rejoin" a slide to the master once individual formatting has been applied. The same thing will happen if you format a bullet uniquely on a slide. It also overrides the master setting and cannot be returned.

I have on occasion been reduced to copying and pasting the text into a new presentation (via notepad - to remove any formatting).

Are the leaves changing colour in Calgary? We have some beautiful fall colours here.

    Cheers

    Hi Catherine
The leaves are yellow here in Calgary - not very exciting - I'm afraid - compared to Ottawa. I grew up in Ottawa and can appreciate the wonderful colours that you are getting.
Thank you for your email. Actually I have found that I am able to rejoin a slide to the Master OR rather I call it "stripping" a slide of its direct formats and letting the Master Slide control the formatting. I find that if you go to a slide that has had for example, direct bullet formatting and then select Format, Slide Layout, and then select Reapply... this will clear the direct formatting and let the Master formatting "shine" through. This just didn't seem to work for direct custom animations.
    Hope this makes sense.
    Thanks again
    Judy

Hey, that's great! I must go test that immediately. I wonder if that has changed between PPt 97 and 2K, because I know I've tested Reapply before. <img src=/S/shrug.gif border=0 alt=shrug width=39 height=15>
