How much RAM is in your computer? Go to My Computer | Properties and look at "Installed memory (RAM)". Also, Task Manger (right-click the task bar and select Task Manager) on the Performance tab will tell you how much Physical Memory you have available.

What software are you using to play the DVD?

If you have corrupt system files you may wish to try a repair install. This site shows the steps to do a repair install.

Looks like you have 3GB of RAM (not 300GB!).

The error in the event log could be caused by a corrupt system file (as Ted pointed out) or by a hardware failure. I would try installing a second DVD drive and see that has the same issues. I would also try reconnecting all the cables to the existing DVD drive - sometimes they can loosen.
