    File Conversion Help - RTE 3343 (VB6 SP5)

I am running an app that uses an Access 97 file as a data container. When I convert the Access 97 file to Access 2000, I get RTE 3343 "Unrecognized Database Format". Reading on the MS KB site says add a reference to DAO 3.6 in the code. I did this and recompiled but get a similar error of "Unregognized Database Format" without the code 3343. Does anyone have any ideas on how to connect to a Access 2000 file? Or are there any additional references that I need in my code? Help!

Where are you getting the error from, Access or VB? How are you converting the database file and how are you connecting to it? The usual method is either using a code connection through ADO or by either creating a data environment or using a DataControl or an ADODataControl. The DataControl is essentially a DAO control, so I wouldn't recommend mixing the two controls and object models.

The error is coming up in VB as I try to run the program. This program works fine with an Access 97 file. It is connecting to that file using DAO 3.51. I have read on the MS site about DAO 3.6 being required to connect to Access 2K files, but I am not sure on how to get it to work. An Article on the knowledge base said to add a reference to DAO 3.6. I did that but it didn't work. Then I read something about Jet 4.0. I am not sure on how to check the version of Jet or if I am even on the right path.

You can't just change the DAO library you use in VB, you have to actually convert the Access file from 97 to 2000, and you do that from Access 2000.
