setting size in OE (OE 6)

Well, hey. Just got a fast message from Dave regarding Word and remembered this Outlook Express question I also have. I'm trying to figure out where to set the parameters in Out look and/or Outlook Express to say "don't download any message bigger than XK (e.g. 50K). I've done this with Netscape mailer for me but can't find it in OE. Its to held deal with being sent the SirCam virus messages.

    Thanks!

Tools>Message Rules>Mail. Never actually used this this, but there is a setting for 'Where the message is more than size'. Scroll down through first box to find it.

I find Norton AV to be the best way of dealing with infected messages, since all pop3 mail goes through their server and is screened for viruses. This doesn't limit the size of emails you can receive, but this may not be an issue for you.

Hey Sparky, thanks for your message the other day about setting size limitations in OE. I finally got around to checking it out - but, unfortunately, it doesn't work. Well, it sort of works. I tested w/ saying don't download anything over 50K; so it didn't. But what I wanted was for it to behave like Netscape mailer which says, "the message is truncated and I can click to download it if I want to". With the OE mailer you don't even know the message is there, so impossible to chose whether to download or not. Oh well! (Oh, tried to find it in regular Outlook and they have a "rule wizard" and there was nothing in there about size at all!)

I use a virus checker but the SirCam messages I was getting were 200K or so and for a while was getting 5 or 6 per day, so it was just convenient not to have to download that big a file size. I belong to a few mailing lists and get maybe 500 messages daily, so speed of download is an issue. <img src=/S/smile.gif border=0 alt=smile width=15 height=15>

Thanks again though!! Now I do know where the "rules" stuff is in OE thanks to you and that may come in handy sometime..
