When I have a rule set up that says "if 'From' is cwbillow@componentics.com" AND "if 'To' is cbillow@componentics.com, then move it to Copies folder" I get the error shown below.

Why is it happening, and / or how do I fix it so that the rule will work?

    Regards,
    Chuck Billow

    CW,

I tried this (outlook 2003) and it worked just fine. Here's a picture of the rule.

    RG

Addendum: I tried to do this on a second account I have in Outlook and I didn't get an error message but neither did the rule work! When I send from this account the from in the Inbox list shows correctly but in the message header it shows up as From: Fname I. LNane[primaryaccount@earthlink.net] on behalf of secondacctount@earthlink.net

RG, they changed the wording a bit, so now apparently it's "from people or public group" and "to people or public group".

But that doesn't really answer the "why'...

Is this an Exchange account?? Hard to see how the server is involved otherwise...

Rather than specifying from or to, try using "with specific words in the sender's address" and "with specific words in the recipient's address" and see whether that works better.

Jefferson, no it isn't an Exchange server (1and1.com); and specifying specific words in the From and To (From - cwbillow@componentics.com and To - cbbillow@componentics.com ) is what I did do.

I'm not positive, but as I recall it worked OK in 2007.

    Regards,
    Chuck

...specifying specific words in the From and To (From - cwbillow@componentics.com and To - cbbillow@componentics.com ) is what I did do.
No, not the "From" and "To" criteria. I am referring to two checkboxes further down in your screen shot. Please look for the exact wording I listed.

Jefferson, I'm sorry, I'm not being clear:

I DO use the boxes further down (with specific words in the sender's / recipient's address). Is that what you meant? Using the "From" and "To " were attempts after the problem surfaced.

    Chuck Billow

Please show the actual rule(s) you have tried and that do not work as expected. Obviously the "To"/"From" rule doesn't work. Can you display the others?

Jefferson, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to attach the three Pics, so I zipped them into a file...

That looks correct. Since the rule looks for a string of text in another string of text, it's difficult to imagine how it could generate an error.

And yet Jefferson, it does -- without fail -- every time. It hasn't worked totally right since 2003 -- But the rule works!

    Just do not understand!

    Chuck,

I'm reaching with this one but I've never seen folder names in Outlook with the leading ~ before. Have you tried sending it to another folder with out the leading ~?

    Chuck,

I got to my wife's laptop which has Outlook 2007 and gave it a try and it worked just fine. Sorry, but I'm out of ideas.

    Good Luck.
