Installing Windows 7 by TweakHound is also a decent article.
The article will walk you through a custom clean install of Windows 7 & tweaks.

Another great site is How To Geek. This site has literally hundreds of tips and tricks to customize your Win 7 OS. This will also help speed up Win 7. Take a look.
