Before I start throwing money away is it possible to put an easy transfer cable between my Win2K Pro and my Win7 Pro - and make it work?

And is it sensible to try to transfer the Win2K's FAT32 into a WIn7 NTFS box?

According to Transferring files and settings: frequently asked questions Easy Transfer does NOT work with Win2k.

You'll have to copy the files to an external device or have both PCs in the same network and transfer over the network.

I've never had an "external device." When I went from Win95 to Win2K it was pretty simple. Why the jump? I thought this Win7 was easier than the old stuff.

Windows 7 is completely different than WIndows 95 and substantially different than Win2k. The device driver model is completely different. Almost none of the hardware of that vintage will work with WIndows 7. If you can find a USB drive that will work with Win2k that will do for backup and migration.
