I sent a message in Outlook 2007 and then clicked on the sent folder. The message was there. I dragged it to a subfolder in the inbox. When I clicked on the subfolder the message was not there. I checked the folder above and below the folder and could not find it.

I also sent it with a receipt. I dragged the receipt to the folder and it appeared there. Did the receipt overwrite the actual message?

That's unlikely: Outlook tolerates duplicates of the same message in the same folder, so a completely different message should be fine.

Did you try changing the sort order of the folder to see whether it sorted into an unexpected location? For example, "Received" may be blank for a sent message.

Did you check back in your Sent Items folder to make sure it was gone?
Do you have any Rules operating which may have done something with it?
