    footnotes in Word

is it possible to disable FootNote Continuation?
i've not found anything that allows you to turn it off.
failing that, any bright ideas of how to keep footnotes on the same page as the relevant text?
this is for one of my users. personally, if the footnote is that long, i think it belongs in the body of the text, but then i'm not writing this stuff, only helping others do it!

The location of a footnote can be changed so it appears directly beneath the text to which it applies (the default position being the end of the page on which the text appears). To do this, Insert|Footnote|Options. Set the footnote option to Beneath Text. Note that this applies to all footnotes.
Alternatively, as it sounds like the user is producing very long footnotes, might they be better as Endnotes - which appear by default at the end of the document? This default location can also be changed so they appear at the End of Section using the same method as changing the footnote location.
    Hope this is some use.

I'm responding to the line in your post "...how to keep footnotes on the same page..."

If that text indicates footnote problems you might want to look at this article:

    Re: footnotes in Word

We have run across the same problem on our network (a large law firm). We have found that if we put a hard return after the footnote (sometimes it takes two), this will make the footnote appear on the appropriate page. I know it's cheating -- but it works!

    Re: footnotes in Word

We've found that if we change the Footnote style by adding 13 pts. of space after the footnote, the footnotes consistently stay on the same page as the text.

Also, a comment on choosing Beneath Text in the Footnote Options -- this places the footnotes beneath the last line of text on the page. For instance, if there's only a half page of text, the footnote will appear in the middle of the page below the last line of text. If text fills the entire page, then the foonote will still be placed at the bottom of the page. Hope this helps!
