    I am running Thunderbird 3.0.4.
I am also running office 2003 with the patch for 2007 reading.
When I get a .docx or .xlsx attachment I can not open it by clicking on it in Thunderbird.
If I save it to the desktop it opens right away.
Thunderbird seems to try to make them into .docx.txt and .xlsx.txt when trying to open them.
If I save them to the desktop the extra.txt is not added so they open normally.
This is a pain and since the problem is Thunderbird I don't think upgrading Office will help.
    Any suggestions?

    Tools > Options > Attachments.
Set the Action for your DOCX and XLSX attachments.

Does not work because when Thunderbird shows docx or xlsx it has a notepad icon and tries to open as .docx.txt or .xlsx.txt, if I save it out to desktop or where ever then it looses the .txt part and acts normal!

Thunderbird 3.1 appears to not have this problem, yea!
