I created a file as a blank page in Word 2007.

I entered some content into it.

I turned on Track Changes and entered more content.

Then I turned off Track Changes

    Then I clicked on Undo.

The file disappeared, though it still appeared in the taskbar.

When I clicked on it in the taskbar, a version of the file one edit back appeared as a duplicate occupying the bottom half or the screen..

I could not move the duplicate around on the screen.

Redo (which had turned into the "Repeat redo" icon that reminds me of a dog chasing its tail). indicated repeat close file.

I created another new file and I oculd edit in it but I could not move its window around on the screen.

    Can anyone duplicate this?

    Hi jsallen,

Following the steps you outlined, the Undo only undoes the last step (whether 'Track Changes' was on or off), progressivly undoing each 'last' step.

Have you ensure your copy of Office is fully patched? And have you tried repairing your Office installation (Word Options|Resources|Diagnose)?

    Hi Terry,

That doesn't seem to make any difference to the results I get (ie, they're correct either way).

When I follow jsallen's steps, I get the same results as macropod mentioned. I typed two lines of text, then turned on Track Changes, then typed another line of text. I then turned off Track Changes. When I looked at the Undo History (see screenshot), turning Track Changes on and off are not listed as actions. If I click Undo, it merely removes the last line of text that I entered and leaves Word in the state it was in when I clicked. That is, if Track Changes is ON when I click Undo, then Track Changes remains on; if it is OFF, it remains off.

Is there any VBA code that runs when you turn Track Changes on and off? You can usually see a reference to VBA code running in Undo History.
