Amazon.com has a feature called "Look Inside" that allows a customer to read the first few pages of a book before buying.
Your options are usually front cover, TOC, first chapter, Index, and back cover.

Does anyone know of a software program (hopefully low cost) that will do something similar for my website?
Could one us PowerPoint for example? Perhaps something like a PDF file?

    Any suggestions ----- Thanks

Have you looked at*http://issuu.com/? A friend of mine used the facilities there to make a nice page-turnable view of a PDF file.

It may help to provide a link to your web site, so we could see how this may apply!

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Thanks Ian and Dave for the rapid reply.

I checked out issuu.com and sent an e-mail to discuss their particular situation.
Not exactly sure if they do the quick-peek I am looking to achieve.
Will let you know what they say.

The website is for some Microsoft Excel books I have written and just getting into the market.
The 2003 book is on Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. The 2007 will be out in a week or so.

You can check out my website at www.slyfoxpress.com.

What do you think about trying Scribd? It's a "social publishing platform" where you can upload a PDF of the content you want people to be able to preview, and you then can embed it (like embedding a YouTube video) on your web site. The benefit of using a third party publishing site is that more people will be able to find it. The downside is that you don't control the viewer and it could change. Actually they are in the process of changing from a Flash-based viewer to an HTML5-based viewer (for HTML5-compatible browsers).

    Jefferson:

I sent off an e-mail to www.scribd.com and will see what they say.

I believe that scribd.com and issuu.com are designed to publish complete books or magazines.

I will wait for their reply to see if they handle "previews" of books.

    Thanks,

I think they publish what you give them.

    Jefferson:

You are correct about their publishing a preview of my books.

I received a reply from www.issuu.com which in part states:
"Issuu's basic publishing service is a free, ad-sponsored solution.
Issuu Pro is the professional publisher
and business solution without the advertising sidebar.
For only $19 a month or 228$ annually you get unlimited publication uploads,
    unlimited readers, detailed statistics...".

I guess I will need to decide "free, ad-sponsored or paid".

Presumably it makes sense to try the free ad-sponsored version and see whether you find the ads too intrusive.
