I am new here. Please excuse me if this has been answered elsewhere on this forum.

I have a computer I just finished building with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed (all current updates). I have installed Microsoft Security Essentials (all latest updates) and have set it to scan at 2 am every day. I also have Windows set to enter sleep mode after 30 min of inactivity. MSE does not wake the computer and thus misses the scan. Is there any way to make MSE wake the computer to start a scan?

    Thanks for your help.

    Alan, Welcome to the Lounge!

I do not have a direct answer, but I believe that a scheduled task will run when the PC awakens if it is asleep at the scheduled time. I would assume there is a method to awaken it as well, but I honestly do not know.

Hi Alan, MSE has an entry in 'Task Scheduler' that you can modify, on the 'conditions tab' tick the box to wake computer.

Is your computer a laptop? If so, then it is quite difficult to get Windows 7 to run a scheduled task to wake the computer.

    Roderunner:

I don't see this task scheduler screen with any of the tabs on my version of MSE. How do I display this screen?

This is not part of MSE - it is a screen from the Task Scheduler:
Start menu / All programs / Administrative Tools / Task Scheduler

    1. Click on Task Scheduler Library in the left hand pane
    2. Select Microsoft Security Essentials in the middle pane, then double click to see those tabs
