Re: Last Three Characters in Footer to be 12 point (Word97 SR2)

Add code to change just the font size of -{PAGE}-.

You can do that using either the Selection or Range object, depending on how you are creating the content of the footer.

Just define a range for -{PAGE}- and apply the font size.

Do you mind me asking why you deleted your original post? Only it rather makes nonsense of the rest of the thread, means that no-one else can even try to help and if someone else had the same problem the question and answer might have helped them, if they could have read it ...

If the question is no longer relevant could you not just add a post to that effect so that no one else adds to it?

Re: Last Three Characters in Footer to be 12 point (Word97 SR2)

    Al,

I have had the same problem on occasions. I have sometimes used Howard's solution, an it's worked- sometimes it hasn't. It seems that "Page # of" field code has a font of its own. I've never been able to consistently reproduce it, or to spend tome solving it. I was hanging in fo another more consistent solution.

I'm sorry you deleted the question- there was nothing wrong with it, and it deserves to stand. Are you able to post it again please?

Re: Last Three Characters in Footer to be 12 point (Word97 SR2)

Howard's non-answer has my question in it. Therefore, I felt that the original question did not warrent being there, since it clearly could not be answered except by repeating the question.

Specifically, Howard's statement, "Just define a range for -{PAGE}- and apply the font size." ias the question.

I have had to programmatically rebuild a footer which contains, among other things, the page number as a field. Specifically, -{PAGE}-. The footer is 6 points. The -{PAGE}- must be 12 points.

As I said in the original post which received a nonanswer, I have been beating my head over trying to set a range and change the font size. Changing the font size I have no problem with. Setting the range, which is either the last 3 characters before the final paragraph mark or the last 27 characters before the final paragraph mark, depending on which function and/or approach you use is.

Now you can see my I stated that Howard's response was a non-answer. His "Just define a range for -{PAGE}- and apply the font size" is exactly what I asked.

So, I have again wasted Woody's Lounge resources asking a question which Howard reasked.

See response to Beryl. It should clarify any questions.

    Hi Al,

Perhaps you could apply a character style to -{ PAGE }- with a search/replace?
Since fields are notoriously elusive in find/replaces, I tried a two-step approach:

    Find what: "^d PAGE "
    Replace with: "<page/>"

    Find what: -<page/>-
Replace with: ^c (where you have "-{ PAGE }-" in the new character style on the clipboard)

Re: Last Three Characters in Footer to be 12 point (Word97 SR2)

That was a bit roundabout; shorter:

    Find what: -^19 PAGE ^21-
    Replace with: ^& ((12 pt))

    <img src=/S/cheers.gif border=0 alt=cheers width=30 height=16>Klaus

Re: Last Three Characters in Footer to be 12 point (Word97 SR2)

    Hi Al,

Sorry I don't have a solution for defining the range in that situation either.
Just want to mention the following, apropos of Klaus' and Geoff's posts:

When you insert the page number, Word automatically applies the built-in "Page Number" character style (and it seems to apply it to characters on either side of the page number as well, such as hyphens).

So a simple way to get the page number to be the font size that you want, would be to define the Page Number character style to be that size:

    ActiveDocument.Styles("Page Number").Font.Size = 12

Perhaps not helpful in your situation, just thought it worth mentioning.

As Beryl said, please do NOT delete posts that have threads depending on them. This is mentioned specifically in section 5 of the <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.wopr.com/cgi-bin/w3t/rules.pl?Cat=>Rules</A>. You will also find that being glibly dismissive of attempts to help you will not encourage further responses.

Re: Last Three Characters in Footer to be 12 point (Word97 SR2)

When you add the {PAGE} field programmatically (via VBA), it is not styled with the Page Number style. (At least according to the last test 5 minutes ago.)

Therefore, I still have the same problem. Setting a range for the last three "characters" of a story.

Last Three Characters in Footer to be 12 point (Word97 SR2)

<P ID="edit" class=small>Edited by Eileen on 04-Oct-01 14:20.</P>I have been beating my head against the wall on this
one. The solution is probably so simple, that it has
    slipped passed me.

I am programmatically building a footer. The reason
is because we changed the format of our footers. Because
of the format change, the macro that finals the document
is not "backward compatable." I have to rectify that.

So, I build the footer consisting of a field

    {DOCPROPERTY "Client"} then a

backward slash (""), then another field

    {FILENAME * Upper * MERGEFORMAT} followed by a

    vbTab, followed by

    a dash (-)

    {PAGE * MERGEFORMAT} and

    another dash.

The resulting output will look something like this:

    QRTG12345.DOC -1-
I need to change the -1- (dash, page number field,
dash) font size to 12 point--the rest of the footer
    is in 6 point--preferably using a range.

For some reason, this is just escaping me!

    Thanks
