I have a Gateway desktop computer and my wife has a Toshiba Satellite laptop
    computer.

I can view a DVD with ASUSDVD.

She gets a 'screen resolution too high; error with hers using ASUSDVD.

Checked resolution on both - they are identical.

    What gives?

    How to cure this?

Suggestion is OK but the computer with the problem is my wife's and she is resistant about installing anything.

I still want to know what causes the no-read.
