Using a Dell 1815dn. Scans of black and white documents appear as a dull red color where they should be black. Is this simply a matter of the mechanical function of the scanner wearing out or is there a diagnostic or setting that can be used to correct this problem? Any help would be appreciated - Thanks!

It's possible the scanner is getting old, but I would check for driver issues before chucking it in the garbage. Go to the manufacturer web site to check for updated drivers compatible with your OS (by the way you do not mention the OS. Have you recently upgraded OS?) It is at least worth trying. Driver versions should be able to be seen in device manager. Good luck, hopefully you can salvage your scanner.

Try a third party app like Hamricks Vue Scan, far more functionality to it as well.
