I've been looking to find an easier way to to rename my files and when searching I came upon a program called batchrename.exe
I thought I'd give it a try, I did a scan and found no viruses so I started using it. At first it seemed like a pretty descent program but, then I found it's first major flaw, you can only have one rename rule per go, or in other words if you want to replace .DVDRip with [DVDRip] and replace say .XVID with [XVID] you have to to run it two separate times. Now, that wasn't the end of the world for me, honestly I could live with just that but then, I realized it's next major flaw, it's not truly free... Now, I've seen plenty of programs that do this but it still Tics me off to no end, and I'm pretty sure not saying that you can only make 30 runs and only up to 30 files per run without registering (paying) before one downloads or at the very least in the EULA is considered false advertising, or in other words illegal (or at least it is on TV). Now, at this point I was kind of P.O.ed but, I decided to use it a little longer to see if it could redeem itself any, the result: I found that the rename rules also have issues with spaces, it doesn't seem to recognize file extensions so if you want to replace all periods with spaces you also damage the file extension. Finally, I found that it had left some ghost lying around my hard drive, files that registered but didn't register, I had to disconnect and reconnect my hard drive to get rid of them.

Overall, batchrename.exe is a horrible program, if anyone knows of a better program or even a good explanation on MS batch renaming I'd love to hear from you, finally if anyone else feels my pain feel free to spread the word of bad programs like this one. In fact, I was thinking it would be nice if the lounge had a downloader's beware type of section where people could list programs like this one and why people should be aware of them. I will be making a request just as soon as I finish this post.
Current Machine:HP Compaq 6910p with 4GB RAM, Core2Duo @ 2.20 GHz, Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family, Avast free, Malwarebyte's free, TP-Link wireless card (as the built in card has nothing but problems with empty solutions): The card identifies as "Atheros AR922X Wireless Network Adapter". [Not the best machine but it does internet, docs, and vids, and some games (PvZ, Spore)]

I've been using Flexible Renamer for years. It's free and powerful.

Bulk Rename Utility is very good too. It'll even extract data from EXIF or ID3 tags to help renaming photos and mp3 files.

I've now tried Flexible Renamer and I quite like it. A way to easily remove hex codes would be nice but, I found a simple enough solution to that (I just copy the other info I want to keep then remove all the brackets). Thanks again for the tip, you wouldn't believe how long I've searched for even a half-ways decent renaming tool.
