I have downloaded the Comodo Internet Security Installation program to a Windows 7 PC . The program is stated too be suitable for Win 7. Installation attempts give the message "This installation does not support the target platform". Can anyone please tell me what is going on and how to overcome the problem?

Hi Bob, and welcome to the Lounge!

Do you have Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit edition? You have to download and install the matching bit version of Comodo for it to install. Comodo is available in 32 and 64 bit, but you have to choose which one to download. Most 32 bit software will run on 64 bit operating systems, but firewall and antivirus apps have to match the "bittedness" of the OS.

Thanks for your help. This is a new PC and the first program I wanted to install was a firewall and I failed to realise that the OS was 64-bit.
I'll try not to be such a nong next time.

Bob, I would also like to extend my welcome to the Lounge? Since this sounds like it's your first time working with 64 Bit OS, it's not being a "nong" to ask questions when something goes astray. As Gerald mentions, security apps need the same "bitness" as the OS (this is a term that showed up sometime in the past and has stuck), but hardware device drivers have to as well, so if you purchase any new hardware, investigate the "bitness" and availability of 64 Bit drivers.

FYI folks, the Comodo Installer is now 32/64-bit. It should choose the correct "bittedness" during the installation process. There is only one version of the Comodo installer, AFAIK.
