I've been using Comodo Firewall for several years, and haven't run into any problem with it until now. In the past, when
an upgrade is notified, I manually download and install it. A matter of a few minutes.

This time, however, after successfully downloading the cfw_installer_x86.exe file, when I open it, sign off on the
licence agreement, and press continue, this message pops up:

    Cannot install COMODO Firewall
Error: 13. The data is invalid

I've attempted to send a note to Comodo, but there is no contact information on their main site. The version I have resident works fine, so I'm not particularly worried. But if the upgrade is more effective, it would be nice to be able to install it.

This reads as though the file you downloaded was corrupted either during the download itself or there is a problem at Comodo with a bad file. Have you tried downloading it again?

Yes, I've tried that several times, with the same result.

What OS are you running? Is it up-to-date with service packs and patches?

Have you tried the troubleshooter at Comodo -? Have you checked at Welcome to the Comodo Forum - Index?
