Mozilla FF 4.0 Beta is available. Some add ons are not available. IE View and Multirow Favorites are 2 I use that are not available. Hopefully soon. I'll see how it stacks up to 3.6.6 and IE.

You can download beta versions of Firefox here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/beta/

There is an extremely detailed feature comparison (3.5/3.6/4.0) here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/beta/technology/

You would be strongly advised to back up your profile folder before installing the new version, just in case any irreversible changes are made. See Backing up your information.

Well so far, after about a week, the 4.0 beta seems stable and works well. There is still a lack of some of the add ons I used in 3.6, but I suspect this will change once the version is released. I do not see much difference to the last version. I did change the view to the familiar view I had on 3.6.6. Too much change too quickly is bad for us "Old Farts"! Otherwise, seems pretty much the same.

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately the Add-Ons Compatibility Reported can be installed, but the add-ons that I want cannot be downloaded because they are incompatible to 4.0 and are grayed out on the download link.

    Jerry,

I uninstalled FF v4.0b1 then installed FF v4.0b2. The beta added all the add-ons from FF v3.6.8. Several (2or3) were listed as incompatible with the beta v4.2 of FF. I then installed Add-on Incompatibility Reporter and all the add-ons work as expectedd. Thanks again for the link.
    Cheers Ted

one problem with Firefox 4.0 Beta2; it does NOT work under Windows 2000 as mentioned in Bug no. 577486 on Bugzilla.

Not to worry though, as the upcoming Firefox 4.0 Beta 3 (coming next week) will run under Win2000 or better.

The compatibility reporter ended up working sporatically. Many features of the beta were somewhat flaky (This would be expected with a beta release, plus there was something really strange happening, so I finally uninstalled the beta version. Everything seems back to normal. I will continue with 3.6.8 or whatever until 4 is officially released. Just thought everyone would like an update.
