does microsoft security essential use heuristic or rely on virus signature only? there was no mention of heuristic at its website. if i install MSE in my XP PC, does MSE come with firewall or is it only available in win 7?
    thanks

MSE is just an AV/AM app. it does not have a firewall. There are disagreements on whether MSE includes heuristic qualities. In my experience, I have never had an infection while using MSE on both Win 7 and Vista PCs. I can not attest to it's use on XP.

I use it on my XP laptop and it works fine. I don't believe MSE has heuristics but there is
some debate going on over at MS answers.

thank you. i think i'll skip MSE and stick to avast free for the time being. avast 5 is usable but not as user friendly for the blind as earlier version
