In browsing other messages, I'm wondering if Office 2010 is the culprit, but anyway...
Win 7 64 bit, running nicely for 6 months.
My issue is with drop down menus in many (all?) programs. Example: QuickBooks. I click to open a list. It's long. I mouse to the down arrow, click, and the drop down closes. Click to open, mouse to list, scroll, the list moves for 2 seconds, closes.
The same thing happens in all Office apps. I click on a pull down, it opens for a second or two, and snaps shut before I can scroll.
Never seen this behaviour before, have tried fiddling with a few Aero settings, but getting nowhere.
I have NOT tried uninstalling Office, nor doing a restore. Thought I'd check to see if anyone had seen this, and if it's some setting I'm missing, before I try a roll back.

    I've run both 32-bit & 64-bit Office 2010 and not seen this.

If your mouse is wireless, have you checked the batteries?

Do you have the latest mouse drivers?

Have you added any other hardware or software recently?

Have you been playing with the Ease of Access area?

Now running HP Pavilion a6528p, with Win7 64 Bit OS.

Well, I started trying stuff. I right clicked on computer, properties, and went into advanced system settings, performance, and set the settings to "performance." Which clears almost all the check marks.
Tested, and drop downs worked again.
Started ticking boxes to see if I could figure out which one, and it seems to be "Use visual styles..." (bottom one.) Soon as I tick it, the boxes close on their own.
The weird piece is that this only started happening last week - prior 5 months, no such menu behaviour.
So, I giess the issue is resolved, altho windows looks pretty vanilla now...

You're right, pretty vanilla with this particular box unchecked. What are the specs on your system? I'm just thinking aloud to myself, I wonder if more system resources would make this work better so you can enjoy something other than plain vanilla. How much RAM do you have? Perhaps this is totally off the mark, but who knows.

    8 gigs, quad processor
I turned the other stuff back on, leaving the last option unchecked, and my drop down menus work.
I annoy myself that the behaviour just showed up after 5 months of everything working.
There must be a registry setting for menu behaviour...

Were any changes at all made prior to the problem showing up? Perhaps even a windows update, something? It's obvious that you have plenty of system resources. I guess I would try a restore for before the problem started. This might be the easiest way to fix the problem.

The biggest thing I did was install Office 2010 - which meant Outlook stopped syncing, etc. and of course the normal Windows Tuesday dump.
I may try a restore at some point when I have time to watch it and see what happens.
