My internet connectivity is with Earthlink through Time Warner's cable system. (NYCAP.RR.Com). Over the past few weeks I have experienced periods of no internet access. I can still see my router and can ping 8.8.8.8, but cannot browse. I assume that I have a DNS issue, specifically with the TW DNS servers automatically assigned to my router. I have changed the DNS settings on the router to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and things seem to be working. Does anyone see any issues leaving the DNS settings to Google servers?

    Hi T,

I use OpenDNS. They offer a number of advantages. I switched from the Mediacom cable DNS servers to OpenDNS over a year ago and have been very pleased with the service. They offer a free account, and you can check them out here .

There may not be any issues in leaving your settings to Google DNS servers, but I highly recommend OpenDNS.
