Yesterday afternoon my McAfee Security Center downloaded an update and prompted me to re-start. After the re-start, the keypad and mouse were paralyzed. I re-booted in safe mode, and that was successful. I tried various permutations of things - too long to describe here, hours passed - but only a system restore to prior to McAfee download would allow me to start normally. Then, of course, McAfee initiated automatic update again, and the whole cycle ran again. Completely removing McAfee was the only solution I could come up with, and my system is now fine (but protected only by MS Essentials).

    Anyone else have this problem?

McAfee is our favourite whipping boy. Luckily we only lost 10% of our machines in the last debacle!

    cheers, Paul
