    Windows 7 IE 8.

I have DivX Plus and Xvid installed. They came installed with my computer. I understand they provide some codecs and other magic so I can play video, audio. But do I need them? Can't Windows Media Player handle my needs? I don't do exotic stuff. Do I understand all I understand about this and these?

DivX and Xvid are codecs for viewing compressed avi. WMP does not have these.
You should be quite safe removing them, if you find you have some video that uses these codecs,
VLC player is capable of playing them.
