Why does my XP SP3 crash with blue screen frequently when I insert a blank DVD disk to be written to during Nero or Lightbridge program?
Currently have HP DVD Writer 1170r USB and Phillips DVD+RW DVD8701.

While waiting for the next BSOD,

Do the error occur with both devices?

Have you updated any firmware or Nero or Lightscribe recently?

What version of Nero & Lightscribe is installed?

    Is XP up-to-date with patches?

    Joe

Have you updated any firmware or Nero or Lightscribe recently? No firmware changed ever. Phillips is 5D24, and HP is LUH23

Is XP up-to-date with patches? Everything is up-to-date on patches

Joe: The BSOD error occured when I was using Ashampo Burning Studio v 9.21 while making a copy of a DVD that I cut yesterday with Nero Vision. Occured when DVD disk was copied, and was asked to insert a blank DVD-R but when disk was inserted I got the BSOD.

Joe: I nelected to tell you that my TURN OFF COMPUTER icon does not properly either TURN OFF or RESTART my Xp, so I merely put it into STANDBY.

This began a few weeks ago but I have not been able to find a solution. Do you suppose that there is a connection. I have so many programs that I just can't reinstall the operating system.

To get closer to the real cause of the problem, open your PC and UN-Plug the cd drive that you're not using.
Disconnect both the power and data cables from the unused drive.

Then try this shortcut to shut down your PC.

    %windir%\System32\shutdown.exe -s -t 00 -f

Copy and paste that shortcut into a new Desktop Shortcut and try that to shut down your PC.

What security software are you using?

My thanks to Dr Who for shutdown instructions.

My security software is Norton Security Suite provided by Comcast.

Before using the shutdown shortcut, I disabled the Phillips DVD writer in the device manager, and shutdown the PC for the first time in several weeks.
