When getting an email with a jpg/jpeg attachment the icon shows the Microsoft logo on it instead of the icon from the program associated with it which is Windows picture and fax viewer in XP
I have no idea why as it used to show the correct icon.
    Any help is appreciated.

Is this in the mail program or after saving to disk?

This is just the email program showing an icon to represent a picture, not the opening program.
When you double click to open the attachment the email program copies the file to a temporary location and then asks Windows to "open" the file in whatever program is required. In your case it it picture viewer. The previous/next buttons in picture viewer move to the previous/next file in the folder where the current picture is, but your email program has not copied the other pictures to this folder so you cannot view them. This is normal behaviour.

    cheers, Paul
