IE8 problematic default font on Win XP reinstall

Since reformatting a hard disk and reinstalling Windows XP Pro (SP3), the default fonts for IE8 (v 8.0.6001.18702) on some web sites appear narrow and too small (looks like Agency FB rather than Arial), example:

The IE8 default Latin fonts are Times New Roman and Courier New, and the language is 'English (United Kingdom) [en-gb]'. A seemingly similar setup (IE8 v 8.0.7608.16385) running under Windows 7 looks fine.

Any suggestions for a remedy would be much appreciated.

When you have Internet Explorer open.Go to,TOOLS,Internet Options.Under appearance,Click on Accessibility.Put a check mark in;Ignore font style specified on web pages.Also put a check mark in;Ignore font sizes on web pages,then click on OK.Under,Accessibility again,Click on fonts chose your to suite your needs.Happy surfing.

But I've since discovered that it ripples through to Outlook Express and also changes the e-mail composition font from Arial to Times New Roman ! (although Arial is still specified).

The driver is the same as previously installed and far as I can tell, correctly installed.

Many thanks - this does sound like a potentially fruitful area to explore, but I am reluctant to pursue this, mainly because several DTP/Graphics packages are installed (InDesign, Illustrator, MS Publisher, CorelDRAW etc.), and the risk of fouling up something important that worked before.

Now it's a bit more clearer to me now, are you using font navigator in corel?

No, but this is installed (my DTP material tends to use PostScript typefaces):

there is an issue wherein font navigator in corel tends to messed fonts in IE, hmmm. not so sure 'bout adobe postscripts. I will look and will let you know.
