IE7 not working

i installed ie7, with all its latest safety updates. i cannot get it to work
first, all my favorites i have in my folder of c:\documents & settings\mi name , do not appear under favorites.
i tried to import them, but is doesn't find any htm file.
the links toolbar is empty. i tried to drag url into it (as in ie6), but doesn't work.
i went to control panel and (i believe), uninstalled that as a windows component and re-installed the latest from microsoft site.
not good.
i am surviving on mozilla, but keeping ie7 as default browser.

any ideas?

Have you tried IE 8 instead of IE 7? Perhaps this would help the problem, and IE 8 is more secure.

regarding ie8; i am (EXTREMELY) scared!
for MANY years, i had ie6, withuot ANY problem AT ALL!!
one day (which i sadly regret my stupidity!!), i decided to switch to ie7, and i have problems now.
honestly, the idea of ugrading "further up" came to my mind, but seeing in this forum the SO MANY problems people have with ie8, i am reluctant to go for it.
tried to revert to ie6, but the message is that an ewer version is installed and denies me to proceed.

The thing is, only those having problems with IE 8 or IE 7 post to the forums. The millions that have upgraded with no ill effects do not go out of their way to say "This works great". They just blissfully continue using the browser. I use both IE 8 and FF 3.6.8 with NO ill effects with either on 3 different PC's at home and my PC at work. The home PCs all have Win 7, the work PC has XP. No problems all around. My feeling is that the problems are as often caused by something else in the PC as by the browser itself.

Let me end by saying "I use IE 8 and This Works Great!!!"

try this please ATTRIB -S C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites /S /D note: please make sure that the paths for your favorites are correct
