I have a licensed copy of Office Basic Edition 2003 that I've been using for a number of years on one PC. Is there any way to buy a licensed version with PowerPoint, without purchasing the whole suite all over again?

Unfortuanately you cannot purchase PowerPoint 2003 through Microsoft or their authorized resellers. Office 2003 was released in early 2003 and is now over 7 years old. One option is to buy a version of Office 2010 that includes PowerPoint, another is to buy just the 2010 version of PowerPoint. A third is to buy a used version from a reliable vendor - doing a web search you will find several. But expect to pay full retail for the used version - so balance your savings against future upgrade costs.

Are you sure that it's possible to buy PowerPoint 2010 as a standalone app?

Yes. See Microsoft PowerPoint 2010 - Buy and download from Microsoft Store. Probably not the cheapest place.

You might want to consider Find great deals on Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 for only $10 US more.
