I have the attached Access report that displays horizontally down the page with a large amount of available real estate on the right hand side. Is it possible to include another section OR am I limited to the one column layout? Any insight would be much appreciated!

Yes, you certianly can have a Multi-column reports in Access.

It is accessed somewhat differently depending on the version of Access you are using but basically it is a Page Setup issue. You make changes to the Page setup by indicating the desired number of columns and the space between them and then in the Headers/footers and detail sections you don't place any controls beyond the width of the first column. For example, if you specify 2 columns of 3 inches with a half inch between them then you wouldn't place any controls (Except in Page and Report Header/Footers) beyond the 3" mark on the ruler..

If you need further clarification, let me know what version of Access you are using and I will get more specific.

    Hope that helps.

    Hi Bob,

Thank you for the quick response. I'm using Microsoft Access 2003.

In Access 2003, Page Setup can be accessed via File ...Page Setup (while previewing the report). Also if the Print Preview toolbar shows when previewing reports, you can use the Setup button on that.

Step by Step Example: A 2 column report

    1. Open up your report in design view
    2. For the Detail/Group header/Group Footers, do not place any controls past the 3” mark in the ruler
    3. Choose: File-Page Setup
    4. Choose the Columns Tab in the resulting dialog box
    5. For “Number of Columns”, Type 2
    6. For “Width”, Type 3” (“same as detail” should now be unchecked”
    7. For “Column Layout”, Choose” Down then across”
    8. Click: OK

When you “Print Preview” your report, it should now be a 2 column report (If there is enough data to go into the second column.)

    Hope that helps.
